Should I hire a trainer or just join a gym?

Should I hire a trainer or just join a gym?

This is a question that I know crosses a LOT of people’s minds when they are looking to start a new fitness program.

In my own biased opinion 🙂 … I think 99% of the time, the answer is, you should hire a trainer.

And here is why:

The #1 challenge for the majority of people is just sticking to an exercise program for an extended period of time.

When you have a trainer (and you need to make sure you choose the RIGHT trainer – a topic I plan to cover in a future article!), it adds in a HUGE factor in keeping you on track.

Because they hold you accountable to showing up.

When you have someone expecting you to be at a session two or three or four times per week, you’re on the hook for getting it done!

This is why people who hire a trainer, on the average, have a MUCH higher success rate than those who just join a gym. (Another topic for a future post!)

Now let’s say you are in the minority, and you already stay consistent with your workout program. You could certainly join a gym and just show up and exercise and do fine.

But I would argue that if you pick the RIGHT trainer, they are going to help you really get a lot better results.

Because they can help you train for a specific goal, and design a program for you that’s going to work you towards that goal in the fastest way possible.

They can also help you with your exercise form and make sure you’re doing the movements properly and getting the most out of them and not getting injured.

The only person who doesn’t need a trainer is the unicorn who never misses workouts, has mastered safe and effective form in their discipline of choice, and are just incredibly dialed in. (I have yet to meet this person by the way so far in life – though they may be out there!)

In conclusion, in my humble opinion, I think EVERYONE who is looking to start, OR take their fitness program to the next level, could benefit from hiring a trainer.

Let us know if we can help 🙂

PS – We have a handful of spots that have opened up in our personal training program at FVT.

If you are:

– Just getting started, and want / need more individualized attention
– Want specific guidance on something – extra core workouts, learning / refining the basics of kettlebells, perhaps dailing in your nutrition
– Simply prefer to work with a trainer one-on-one vs in a group setting

This could be the perfect fit 🙂

keto

Let’s talk about the keto diet today!

It seems to be the latest big trend in the weight loss world.

And I am having a turkey sandwich and an apple for lunch after I write this, so I thought it would be perfect timing 🙂

So let’s start with explaining exactly what the “keto” diet actually is.

The popular low-carb diets (such as Atkins or Paleo) are somewhat similar, but they modify a true keto diet.

A true keto plan centers on fat, which supplies as much as 90% of daily calories.

Instead of relying on sugar (glucose) that comes from carbohydrates (such as grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits), the keto diet relies on ketone bodies, a type of fuel that the liver produces from stored fat.

So the idea is that your body burns fat for fuel, and you lose weight!

So does it work?

For a lot of people, in the short-term, yes.

I’m sure you’ve heard from a friend or family member or co-worker who tried the approach, and it’s been great for them.

But here’s my thing.

For 99%+ of people, this approach is not sustainable.

I just don’t think the vast majority of people doing this are still going to be at it five, ten, fifteen years from now.

And quite honestly – if you’re not planning on making it a life change, why bother?

WHO CARES if I can get you to lose 10 or 20 or 30 or more pounds … but then you can’t keep following the plan for longer than a couple / few months … and you end up this time next year at the exact same place you are now?

Our solution at FVT is teaching you how to do this the RIGHT way. So that you can finally develop a healthy relationship with food. And so that you can still eat all the foods you enjoy, but get to the healthy weight you want to be at, and stay there.

So if you are struggling a bit, and want help with losing some body fat and KEEPING it off, click HERE or call 916.273.9366 to contact us today!

We’ll get back to you ASAP and guide you to the program option that is the best fit 🙂

I look forward to hearing from you! –

How I Finally Lost the Weight

The year was 2005.

Freshly “retired” from my football career, and finding myself quickly out of shape, I set out to lose 50+ pounds.

And once I started on the journey, I quickly realized my diet was going to make or break my success.

Because once I started tracking things, I realized that to get into a consistent calorie deficit (which is what needed to happen to be able to consistently lose weight), my DIET was going to have by FAR the biggest impact on the fat loss piece of the puzzle.

And I realized where I was going wrong was in three big areas:

1 – PLANNING – When I first started out, I just kind of was “trying to eat healthy” – but didn’t have a specific plan that I was working with and sticking to.

2 – SHOPPING – Another big mistake I was making was I wasn’t really getting all the food I needed to make healthy meals all week. So I’d shop on Sunday, run out of food on Wednesday, and then eat out and slap together meals with what I had for a few days – every week!

3 – PREPARING – I’d start the week with great intentions. But then I’d get busy, and end up not having healthy food available and prepared and ready to go, and I’d grab food out and do whatever to make it through ’till the next week – when I’d start all over again 🙂

It was when I realized all of this – and came up with some strategies for ALL THREE categories, to be able to execute them consistently – that I broke through, lost 60+ pounds in 7 months, and have kept it off since.

That’s why we’ve decided to put together the 10-4 Challenge!

It’s a 28 Day Challenge that takes everything I learned from this experience, and to help YOU focus, build great habits around healthy eating, and finally lose the weight too (specifically – 10 pounds in 4 weeks).

Look forward to working with you on this!
