(video) How to Get Better at Pull Ups!

Pull ups are important. They are one of the best indicators of total body fitness. If you are a woman and you can do a few pull ups … or if you are a man and you can do 10 or more … you probably have a solid bodyweight-to-strength ratio, relatively low level of bodyfat, and good overall level of fitness.

They are a great way to train your upper body pulling muscles … as well as the core and the total body!

Watch the video, and learn:

— The difference between a pull up and a chin up .. and which one is easier
— What “counts” as a legit pull up or chin up rep
— The PROPER way to do a jumping or assisted pull up or chin up
— The PROPER way to do a band-assisted pull up or chin up
— How to work to full, unassisted pull ups / chins ups – and beyond!

And don’t forget – we’ll be working on pull ups every week – for 12 weeks straight! – at Next Level Strength. The program starts January 30th, and $50 pre-registration discount ends Sunday:

What to eat after a workout (pic)

Getting the right nutrition after training can shorten recovery time and help to build lean muscle.

But the right combo of macronutrients is essential. A 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein has been shown in research to be highly effective (study linked below).

(The old “myth” was to avoid fat post-workout, as it slowed nutrient absorbtion … I haven’t seen any conclusive research that this is actually true, so for now, I’m adding peanut butter to my after training meal!)

My current favorite post-workout meal is Chocolate, Peanut Butter and Banana oatmeal.

All you need is:

– 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal
– 1 scoop Previnex Nourify PLUS Vegan Protein – Chocolate
– 1 medium banana
– 1/2 tbsp Peanut Butter
– 1/4 cup 2% milk (or non-dairy sub like coconut milk)

First, cook the oatmeal.

(I like to put the oatmeal in BEFORE the water boils for this recipe, to make it extra creamy)

Once it’s done, turn the heat off, and stir in the oatmeal and peanut butter.

Slice the banana on top, then add the milk.

According to my food log, this gets me:

– 440 calories
– 67 g carbs
– 28g protein
– 13g fat

If you give it a try, let me know how you like it!

Keep training hard, make it a great week –

Meet Jessica :)

“Jessica” had spent years as a self-described cardio bunny.

Then she saw a YouTube video about how an actor got ripped for a movie role, she decided that she wanted to turn “professional”.

Until then, she had done barre, yoga, pilates – and had even tried lifting weights a bit – but truth be told, her knowledge was a combination of Google searches, and stuff she had heard “was good” from her cardio bunny friends.

So Jessica started working with a trainer, and the first thing he added into her routine was deadlifts.

She’d never tried them before, and was skeptical.

But she was AMAZED at the results she got.

They helped her gain strength and lean muscle.

They totally changed her shape, giving her a smaller waist and rounder glutes.

They also improved her posture, and made her feel like a baddass!

Do you want to get results like Jessica?

Join our Next Level Strength group, starting January 30th.

We’ll be teaching you how to deadlift safely and effectively.

And be sure to sign up ASAP to save $100 off the tuition (discount ends tomorrow):

This is a 12 week program designed to help you 1) take your strength to the next level 2) bust through a training plateau 3) meet new goals in 2019.

We will be meeting once per week, for twelve weeks, Wednesday nights from 6 to 7 pm at 1530 X Street.

We’ll deadlift. We’ll work on pull ups. We’ll work on snatches. We’ll give you a training plan to do on your own between workouts to maximize your results. And you’ll end up a STRONGER version of yourself at the end!

(Program will also co-inside with Spring TSC event – so that you can test your new found fitness level and see how you stack up! Signing up for the event is a purely OPTIONAL part of the training, it is not required in any way to participate.)

ALSO IMPORTANT:

1) I can work with 12 people MAX in this program (since shooting this video, figured out a way to add 2 from the original plan – but that’s it!)

I want to be able to keep the quality of the coaching high. A lot of people have expressed interest in something like this over the last few months, so I fully expect all spots to fill.

2) I want to get everyone who is going to sign up, an incentive to get registered ASAP, because there is going to be a lot of planning – WAY more than an average boot camp workout for example – and I need to know who is going to be participating well ahead of time. SO, I am going to give a deep “fast action” discount as an incentive.

You will save $100 off the regular price when you sign up by Sunday, Jan 20th at 12 noon PST, OR when all 12 spots fill, whichever comes first.
